BRBA: Where are you from?
NR: I was born and raised in Lafayette.
BRBA: Where and what type of law do you practice?
NR: I have offices in both Baton Rouge and Lafayette. I’m really passionate about estate planning, wills, trusts, successions, corporate law and tax issues.
BRBA: How long have you been practicing law?
NR: I have been practicing law for about four months.
BRBA: Where did you receive your education?
NR: I went to UL for the first three years of undergrad and then LSU for the last year, and Southern for Law School.
BRBA: What made you want to become an attorney?
NR: My junior or senior year of high school a friend introduced me to a district judge, and he would let me come into his chambers, sit in on hearings and trials, take notes and ask lots of questions. It was an interesting experience to see how things worked out in the real world and provided me a lot of insight early on which led me to wanting to practice law. During undergrad I kind of got away from wanting to do law, but after graduation I decided to go to law school and it was a great decision.
BRBA: What is one thing you wish you would have known before you went to law school?
NR: I wish I would’ve known about the 529 savings plan through the Louisiana START Savings Program to save money to go to law school.
BRBA: If you didn’t practice law what would be your profession?
NR: High school history teacher who coaches speech and debate.
BRBA: What motivated you to become involved with the BRBA?
NR: I got involved at the BRBA as soon as I got my license. I volunteered at the BRBA while I was in law school for the family law clinic. I’ve really appreciated how the BRBA has embraced my decision to participate and be involved.
BRBA: How are you involved at the BRBA?
NR: I am on the CLE committee. The CLE committee has been very open in embracing any ideas I’ve had right off the bat which has made me excited about my involvement. I am also a volunteer for the Teen Court program.
BRBA: Are you involved with any other organizations or causes?
NR: I am involved in community outreach for the State Bar Association and I am a trustee for the Children of the Congo Foundation.
BRBA: What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
NR: I like to play golf and basketball, go kayaking, read, catch up with friends and take care of my two dogs.
