Mark C. Macmurdo

Fishman Haygood L.L.P.

BRBA: Tell us about your education.

I started out at Tulane, but saw the light and finished at LSU with degrees in economics and history. After a brief stint living in New York, I came back to LSU for my law degree.

BRBA: Where are you from?

Baton Rouge.

BRBA: Where and what type of law do you practice?

I practice corporate law, real estate, mergers and acquisitions, and finance.

BRBA: Why did you want to become an attorney?

I knew that studying to become a lawyer would fulfil my personal intellectual interests. My father was also a lawyer, so I was exposed to the profession all my life. It seemed like a decent way to make a living.

BRBA: If you were not practicing law, what would be your alternate profession?

I would probably be a journalist. Working for The Daily Reveille at LSU was a job where I put in countless hours and didn’t care that was basically a volunteer position.

BRBA: Are you involved with the BRBA? If so, how?

I seek out BRBA social events because they are a great opportunity to have fun and socialize with attorneys from a variety of backgrounds. I’d like to be more involved in the pro-bono work the BRBA does.

BRBA:  What motivated you to become involved with the BRBA?

I think the mission of the BRBA, especially with respect to providing access to legal services to those who cannot afford it, is very important.

BRBA: What is your favorite BRBA activity or event? Why?

The annual softball tournament. My dad’s team, Steffes & Macmurdo, were always title contenders. I was always the bat boy. Now I am looking to join a team if anyone looking for a pitcher or first basemen.

BRBA: What is the best piece of advice you have received?

Time is your most valuable commodity. Incidentally, I received this advice before billing in six-minute increments.

BRBA: What are your leisure activities?

I enjoy travelling with my wife, Kristen, and cycling.

BRBA: What is the last book that you read?

The first book in the Game of Thrones series by George R. R. Martin. I’m trying to read all of the books before I watch the shows. It’s taking a while.

BRBA: Tell us something interesting about yourself.

I have had my deep voice since I started speaking. I have been told I could do voiceover or voice acting work, so if there are any interested agents reading this, I’m available.
