Laura Marcantel New Member Spotlight

BRBA: Where are you from?

LM: I was born and raised in Baton Rouge.

BRBA: Where and what type of law do you practice?

LM: I work at Laperouse, APLC where I practice mainly in the areas of construction law and commercial litigation.

BRBA: How long have you been practicing law?

LM: I've been practicing for just over a year now.

BRBA: Where did you receive your education?

LM: I attended St. Joseph's Academy for high school. I received my undergraduate degree from LSU and attended LSU Law School.

BRBA: What made you want to become an attorney?

LM: I grew up watching my dad, Carson Marcantel, practice law here in Baton Rouge. I also participated in debate in high school, where I gained a passion for research and oral advocacy. Both of those things influenced me to pursue law.

BRBA: What is one thing you wish you would have known before you went to law school?

LM: Get involved in as many opportunities as possible, and explore different areas of law that you are interested in through classes and clinics.

BRBA: If you didn’t practice law what would be your profession?

LM: I would either be putting my finance degree to use, or I would have my own food travel show. It's a toss up.

BRBA: What motivated you to join the BRBA?

LM: I was interested in meeting other members of the legal community in Baton Rouge and continuing to network with my law school classmates.

BRBA: How are you involved at the BRBA?

LM: I am a member of the Young Lawyers section. I have attended Belly Up with the Bar in the past and look forward to doing so again. I also plan on taking some of the great CLE courses offered by the BRBA.

BRBA: Are you involved with any other organizations or causes?

LM: I am also a member of the state bar association and the local chapter of the American Subcontractors Association.

BRBA: What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

LM: I enjoy running, attending LSU games, and reading.
