Benjamin Wallace New Member Spotlight

BRBA: Where are you from?

BW: I grew up in Tyler, Texas. Louisiana has been home for about 12 years now.

BRBA: Where and what type of law do you practice?

BW: I'm an Assistant Solicitor General in the Louisiana Attorney General's Office. In that role, my practice consists of constitutional and administrative law cases at all levels of federal and state court in Louisiana and elsewhere.

BRBA: How long have you been practicing law?

BW: Three years. I spent my first year out of law school clerking for a federal district judge in the Eastern District of Louisiana. Then I spent a year clerking for a federal circuit judge in the U.S. Court of Appeal for the Fifth Circuit. I went from there to my current job, where I've worked for a year. Each job has been incredibly interesting, challenging, and rewarding. And I've been surrounded by great mentors and leaders every step along the way.

BRBA: Where did you receive your education?

BW: I earned both a B.A. and a J.D. from LSU. Geaux Tigers!

BRBA: What made you want to become an attorney?

BW: I was drawn to the profession through my previous career as a newspaper reporter. That turned out to be incredible training for law school, clerking, and my current practice.

BRBA: What is one thing you wish you would have known before you went to law school?

BW: The people you meet and connect with are just as important as your grades.

BRBA: If you didn’t practice law what would be your profession?

BW: Who knows! It'd probably involve research and writing. That's been the thread through my professional life.

BRBA: What motivated you to join the BRBA?

BW: The prospect of meeting more local lawyers who call Baton Rouge home and want to make it a great place to practice law.

BRBA: How are you involved at the BRBA?

BW: I'm a motivated new member! I've attended a couple of events and am interested in getting more involved.

BRBA: Are you involved with any other organizations or causes?

BW: I'm a member at Bocage Racquet Club who loves to play tennis.

BRBA: What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

BW: I like to exercise, travel, and read. It's also nice to have a good TV show to watch. Lately it's been Better Caul Saul and Ted Lasso. Highly recommend both!
