Antonio C. Ferachi

 Louisiana Department of Revenue

BRBA: Tell us about your education.

Bachelor’s degree in business administration from Louisiana State University. Juris doctorate from Southern University Law Center.

BRBA: Where are you from?

Plaquemine, Louisiana.

BRBA: Where and what type of law do you practice?

I am Director of Litigation at the Louisiana Department of Revenue. In addition to litigating myself, I manage a great group of in-house and outside counsel that represent the Department, as well as provide counsel to the Department’s appointed officials, directors and employees. I practice in the state and local tax area.

BRBA: Why did you want to become an attorney?

I always loved resolving issues. I wanted to find an occupation that allowed me to find solutions and/or a way to compromise to resolve issues. Becoming a lawyer gave me a great set of tools that has allowed me the chance to advocate for the interests of others and help find solutions to issues.

BRBA: If you were not practicing law, what would be your alternate profession?

A professor/teacher.

BRBA: What is one thing you wish you would have known before you went to law school?

I wish I would have known I wanted to ultimately practice in the state and local tax area.

BRBA: Are you involved with the BRBA? If so, how?

Yes. I have been a participating artist in the BRBA’s Arts Judicata event the past two years (2017 and 2018) and served on the Arts Judicata Committee in 2018. I have also contributed a number of articles to the BRBA’s The Baton Rouge Lawyer (formerly known as Around the Bar).

BRBA: What motivated you to become involved with the BRBA?

I wanted a chance to give back to a profession that has given me so much. Specifically, Arts Judicata allowed me the chance to share my love of painting to help raise funds for the Baton Rouge Bar Foundation and the great work they do in the community.

BRBA: What is your favorite BRBA activity or event?

Arts Judicata of course.

BRBA: Are you involved with any other organizations or causes?

Yes. I have also used my artistic talent to help the Blue Ribbon Soiree organization to raise funds for prostate cancer research, as well as St. John School in Plaquemine. I am also a frequent volunteer at Southern University Law Center to judge first year legal writing oral arguments as well as their Moot Court Board competitions.

BRBA: What is the best piece of advice you have received?

Do what you love then it’s not work.

BRBA: What are your leisure activities?

Painting Louisiana landscapes and wildlife, tennis and gardening.

BRBA: What is the last book that you read?

I have to confess it has been a long time since I read a book. Lately, my reading seems to be limited to The Advocate, Baton Rouge Business Report and The Baton Rouge Lawyer.

BRBA: Tell us something interesting about yourself.

The questions above already gave it away. An attorney who is an artist-what a unique combination of two completely different skill sets.
