BATON ROUGE BAR FOUNDATION
PRO BONO PROJECT
The Baton Rouge Bar Foundation Pro Bono Project is dedicated to improving equal access to justice for all and has been making a meaningful change in people’s lives since 1986. Our Pro Bono Project volunteers provide critical civil legal services for poor people in our community struggling with some of life's most difficult problems: family disintegration, loss of housing, bankruptcy, loss of income through disability and domestic violence. Recognizing that there is no "one-size-fits-all" approach to pro bono and that attorneys have varying interests and needs, the Baton Rouge Bar Foundation offers several ways for volunteers to become involved.
We accept 500-700 new clients each year. You, the attorney, will benefit from organized pro bono work through the Baton Rouge Bar Foundation.
The Pro Bono Project provides a way for you to meet your professional responsibility.
Malpractice insurance through Complete Equity Markets is provided by our project.
You’ll have opportunities for reduced fee CLE.
You gain more experience in the courtroom and develop practice skills in different areas of law.
Believe it or not, there are people in your community who are unaware of their legal rights...Your contribution can change a person’s life forever.

Volunteers provide legal advice to low-income clients each Wednesday and Thursday afternoon from 3 to 5 p.m. at the St. Vincent de Paul Bishop Ott Shelter.
Self-Help Resource Center
The Self Help Resource Center is a walk-in clinic located in the East Baton Rouge Family Court (300 North Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA) and serves self-represented litigants with Family Court matters. The clinic is open Tuesday and Thursday from 10am- 2pm. Law students assist pro se litigants in document preparation and filing. Volunteer attorneys oversee the document preparation and offer notarization but do not give legal advice. The Self-Help Resource Center is open to attorneys in all areas of practice.
Volunteers provide legal advice to clients of various social service agencies. Workshops are held 9 to 11:45 a.m. on weekdays and 9:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. on Saturday.
Pro Bono Curator
Volunteers act as curators for adverse parties in pro bono cases. Advertising costs will be reimbursed by the Bar Foundation.
Volunteers serve as conflicts attorneys when an adverse party is represented by Southeast Louisiana Legal Services.
Wills for Heroes
This is a national foundation that focuses on providing wills at no cost to first responders (law enforcement officers, fire fighters and EMS).
This Program is financially assisted by the Interest on Lawyers’ Trust Accounts (IOLTA) Program of the Louisiana Bar Foundation, Southeast Louisiana Legal Services, Family, District, and City Court Filing Fees and the Baton Rouge Bar Foundation.
