The Baton Rouge Bar Association’s Volunteer Committee will host its annual social Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2010, at 5:30 p.m. at the Middleton Bar Center, 544 Main St. The social serves to welcome new admittees to the BRBA and introduce them, as well as current members, to the projects the bar members participate in throughout the year.
The attendees are invited to visit tables set up at the reception featuring projects that the Volunteer Committee participated in over the past year, while enjoying wine and hors d’oeuvres. They will also have the opportunity to sign up for projects of their choice. The Volunteer Committee organizes monthly projects, including an annual food drive to benefit the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank, Easter egg hunts for children at several inner-city schools and a Christmas party with Santa at the Children’s Hospital Baton Rouge Clinic.
In addition, the Baton Rouge Bar Foundation Pro Bono Committee will be present to encourage attendees to provide legal services to the poor through its community outreach efforts. Organizers of the reception include Heather L. Landry and Mackenzie Smith, who are also the 2010 Volunteer Social Chairpersons. Landry is an associate with Milling Benson Woodward LLP and Smith is judicial clerk to Judge R. Michael Caldwell at the 19th Judicial District Court. Carole McGehee, Volunteer Committee staff liaison, is helping to coordinate this event. For more information regarding the Volunteer Committee social please contact the BRBA at (225) 344-4803.
